In 2024, Jose Rizal University (JRU) made a groundbreaking move toward gender equality and inclusivity by launching its first all-gender restroom—an important stride in challenging gender stereotypes and addressing issues of marginalization within educational spaces. Located in the Centennial Building, this safe and respectful space was designed to support students of all gender identities and expressions, including those often underrepresented or subject to gender bias, such as women, girls, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The initiative reflects JRU’s commitment to breaking down hegemonic norms, advancing feminist perspectives, and promoting equal opportunities for all. By fostering an environment free from sexism, gender politics, and hypersexual assumptions, the university not only upholds the values of autonomy, dignity, and respect—it also affirms the right to representation, safety, and bodily integrity for every Rizalian. As part of its broader effort to integrate intersectionality, student empowerment, and inclusive decision-making into its framework, JRU continues to educate both minds and hearts, nurturing a generation that stands against misogyny, embraces diversity, and champions equality for all.
