On October 11, 2024, José Rizal University reaffirmed its commitment to quality education and sustainable development through the e-Waste Collection Drive: Clear Out, Contribute, and Create a Greener Future!
Spearheaded by the Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines, SE – JRU Chapter. Far beyond being a student-led activity, the drive represents JRU’s broader institutional initiative to integrate sustainability, social responsibility, and innovative learning into its academic culture.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), the project provided students with experiential learning opportunities that merged theory with practice. Participants gained vocational and professional training by organizing logistics, conducting awareness campaigns, and facilitating proper e-waste collection and sorting. At the same time, the drive cultivated environmental stewardship and active citizenship—demonstrating JRU’s role in shaping learners who are not only competent professionals but also ethical and socially responsible individuals.
By embedding service learning and sustainability-focused projects into student life, JRU creates a dynamic and supportive learning environment that fosters lifelong learning and global consciousness. The e-Waste Collection Drive thus exemplifies JRU’s mission to deliver holistic, humanistic, and future-ready education, where academic excellence is inseparable from ecological and social responsibility.
