After assessing the reading levels of grade 2 and grade 3 students at Mandaluyong Elementary School, Principal Joy Tamayo and her team developed a reading intervention program by collaborating with dedicated partners.
One of these partners is Lingap Angat, a non-governmental organization chaired by Ms. Lot Ortiz-Luis. Through its Community Learning Hub, Ms. Lot sought assistance from José Rizal University (JRU) for tutors. Members of the Young Educators Society eagerly volunteered for the initiative. The tutoring sessions were conducted over fourteen Saturdays and included not only JRU college students but also non-teaching staff, elementary school faculty, and senior high school students.
On March 15, a culminating activity was held to showcase the success of the reading program and to award certificates to the learners, volunteers, and partners involved. Highlights of the report revealed that 50% of the grade 2 beneficiaries are now ready for grade-level reading, while 100% of the grade 3 beneficiaries have shown improvement in their reading skills. It was recommended that the partnership with Lingap Angat and Jose Rizal University be strengthened to continue the program.

The teamwork between JRU and Lingap Angat to help the young learners of Mandaluyong Elementary School improve their reading skills proves that Quality Education, a Sustainable Development Goal, can be achieved through effective partnerships.
