Career Opportunities for the Next Generation

  • December 5, 2025

In today’s fast-changing world, where technology constantly reshapes how we live and work, one question stands out for every student: What kind of career will give my life meaning?

This was the core of the discussion during the career talk organized by the Guidance Testing Office (GTO) at Jose Rizal University, titled “Building a Future with Purpose: Career Opportunities for the Next Generation.” More than just a guide to choosing a profession, the event encouraged students to reflect on what truly drives them— their purpose, values, and vision for the future.

Mr. Ramon Maria Miguel M. Barredo, Director for Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Unilab Education

Guest speaker Mr. Ramon Maria Miguel M. Barredo, Director for Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Unilab Education, shared valuable lessons from over thirty years in marketing, strategy, and business development. His talk reminded students that success should never be measured by paychecks or promotions but by the impact one makes. “A career should not be defined by titles,” he emphasized. “It should be defined by
purpose.”

Mr. Barredo’s message resonated deeply with the audience. He shared how his journey wasn’t always smooth. He described how moments of struggle and uncertainty became stepping stones toward growth. For him, success relies on resilience, humility, and the courage to keep going when life gets tough. In a world of constant change, he said that qualities like empathy, adaptability, and integrity matter more than ever.

He also stressed that while technical skills open doors, it’s human values that help people thrive once they walk through them. “A diploma gets you the interview,” he reminded the crowd, “but your actions and words decide whether you succeed.” Mr. Barredo highlighted the partnership between Unilab Education and Unilab, which provides students with opportunities to apply what they learn through training and mentorship. He said these collaborations bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience, helping students build not just careers but lives filled with purpose and service.

The event closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—showing how education, work, and collaboration come together to shape a more sustainable and meaningful future.

As the talk concluded, Mr. Barredo echoed a timeless reminder from JRU’s founder, Don Vicente Fabella: “In selecting your life career, choose the one that best suits you for service to yourself, to your country, and to mankind.” These words echo the heart of the discussion—that purpose gives meaning to progress. Building a future with purpose means choosing paths that not only sustain us but also uplift others. It means striving for success that is measured not just in numbers, but in impact. And it means believing that every small act
of service, done with intention, contributes to something far greater.

In the end, “Building a Future with Purpose” is not simply about finding a career. It is about building a life that matters—a life that educates, empowers, and connects. For the next generation, that is where true opportunity begins.
