José Rizal University (JRU) marked another milestone in its commitment to student success and graduate employability after receiving official recognition as an accredited Job Placement Office (JPO) from the Department of Labor and Employment–National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) on October 27, 2025.
With this recognition, JRU became the first accredited Job Placement Office in Mandaluyong City highlighting the University’s continuing efforts to bridge the gap between education and employment.
More than an institutional achievement, the accreditation represents an important step toward expanding career opportunities for Rizalians. As an accredited Job Placement Office, JRU can further strengthen its partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Mandaluyong City and DOLE to facilitate access to employment assistance, career development programs, labor market information, and job placement opportunities.
Through these partnerships, students, graduating Rizalians, and alumni can benefit from stronger connections with government-supported employment programs, industry partners, and potential employers. These opportunities are expected to enhance career readiness and help Rizalians navigate the transition from academic life to professional employment.
The accreditation was granted following the University’s compliance with the requirements of Republic Act No. 8759, or the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Act, as amended by Republic Act No. 10691, and its implementing rules and regulations under Department Order No. 157, Series of 2016.
Beyond providing employment assistance, JRU is also set to take on a broader role in advancing employment initiatives across Metro Manila. The University is expected to serve as a member of the policy-making committee for Job Placement Offices in the National Capital Region, creating opportunities to participate in discussions and initiatives aimed at improving employment facilitation services.
Through this engagement, JRU can contribute valuable perspectives from the academic sector, promote graduate employability, and help shape responsive programs that address the evolving needs of job seekers and employers. This development reflects the University’s growing role not only as an educational institution but also as a partner in workforce development and employment advocacy.
The accreditation also supports JRU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), by promoting access to productive employment and meaningful career opportunities. It likewise contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by supporting the transition from learning to employment, SDG 1 (No Poverty) by expanding pathways toward sustainable livelihoods, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthened collaboration among educational institutions, government agencies, and industry stakeholders. By connecting education, employment, and institutional partnerships, JRU continues to demonstrate how universities can contribute to sustainable development beyond the classroom.
For JRU, education goes beyond earning a diploma. It is also about preparing students to pursue meaningful careers, contribute to their communities, and thrive in an evolving workforce.
The University’s recognition as an accredited Job Placement Office underscores its continuing commitment to supporting Rizalians throughout their academic journey and into their professional lives. As JRU opens more doors to employment opportunities, it continues to strengthen its role in shaping career-ready graduates and building a more inclusive, skilled, and economically resilient workforce.
