The Junior High School is a hub of excellent secondary education that aims to develop critical and analytical thinking as well as exceptional communication and social skills while instilling Rizalian values among its students.

Junior High School Curriculum

The University offers a four-year secondary curriculum. The Junior High School is the first certified Level III Reaccredited Program in the country granted by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), modified to suit the global educational policies and priorities of JRU Junior High School. Its course offerings for the elementary and secondary levels are recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd).

The enhanced Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) prescribed by the Department of Education (DepEd) is being implemented by Jose Rizal University (JRU) modified to suit its educational policies. In terms of the number of contact hours, the JRU Curriculum offers more compared to DepEd’s Basic Education Curriculum. Prescribed by DepEd considering the suggested time allotment and utilizes flexible modes of learning.

The classes are conducted for 50 minutes each for English, Math, Science, and Business Technology.

The Junior High School Division was approved by the K-12 Committee of the Department of Education to offer the Junior High School Program beginning School Year 2016-2017.

English is used as the medium of instruction in all subjects except Filipino. The University believes that complete familiarity with English, as a universal language, is critical to a more effective social and economic role of the child. The Junior High School is very conscious of the importance of a good command of the English language in secondary education. It has initiated steps in improving our subjects by including the Computer-Aided Instruction (CAI) in teaching all our subjects.

The JRU Junior High School Curricula for all curriculum years meet the national requirements but are further strengthened to enhance instruction reflective of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes suited to the ever-changing needs of students and society.

1. Display a strong command of language by demonstrating advanced communication skills in various situations;

2. Apply the mastered mathematical skills and scientific concepts into real-life situations;

Certificate of Good Moral Character (not applicable for new students who graduated from JRU)

In cases where the admission credentials are deficit, incomplete or cannot be substantiated at the moment, an undertaking form shall be executed by the applicant.The University reserves the right to decline any application for admission to the University, which does not conform, to its policies, rules and regulations.

Scholarships available for Junior High School Students

The University upholds its commitment to making quality education accessible to all through a number of scholarships that are available every year to qualified student applicants.

LA PLUMA SCHOLARSHIP

All incoming freshmen in the Junior High School division who have been certified as belonging to the top ten (10) in academic ranking by their Elementary School Principals from any school including JRU are eligible to qualify as “La Pluma” scholars for their initial two (2) years in JRU for as long as they enroll in JRU in the school year immediately following their year of graduation from Elementary School.

“La Pluma” scholarship privileges include 100% discount on tuition and miscellaneous fees except on those fees charged on “per application” basis, 100% reimbursement of textbooks, and inclusion in “Academic Scholars’ Mentoring Program”. In addition, incoming “Valedictorians” are entitled to a monthly allowance of One Thousand Pesos (P1,000.00) which they will continue to enjoy for as long as they remain classified as “La Pluma” scholars.

All other incoming freshmen from any DepEd recognized school, including JRU, may apply for an “Entrance” scholarship, except “La Pluma” scholarships, by completing and passing all the requirements of the scholarship program.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

The “Entrance Scholarship A” is given to the incoming Grade 7 students of Junior High School who obtain the top three (3) highest scores in the JRU Scholarship Admission Test. Successful applicants are entitled to 100% discount on tuition fee and 20% discounts on common miscellaneous fees when they enroll in the immediate succeeding academic year.

The “Entrance Scholarship B” is given by the University to incoming Grade 7 students of Junior High School who obtain scores equivalent to above average in the JRU Admission Test. Successful applicants are entitled 100% discount on tuition fee when they enroll in the immediate succeeding academic year.

JRU Junior High School students who ranked as top 1 to top 5 of the entire year level may apply for “Academic” scholarship by completing submitting all the requirements of the scholarship programs.

Students classified as “Academic A” scholars as determined by GTO and approved by the President are entitled to 100% discount on tuition fees and 20% discount on common miscellaneous fees when they enroll in the immediate succeeding academic year.

Students classified as “Academic B” scholars by the GTO as approved by the President are entitled to 100% discount on tuition fees when they enroll in the immediate succeeding academic year.

The University reserves the right to promulgate other rules, regulations and policies to effectively and properly implement these scholarship programs.

SPECIAL FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP

The University grants a number of full scholarships valid for tuition and other school fees, stipend, and book allowances to individuals of exceptional promise. Students entitled to these benefits are recommended by the principal and approved by the President. These scholars shall be known as special funded scholars and are chosen annually.

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP

Athletic and band scholarships are granted to deserving student-athletes for the purpose of representing the University in inter-scholastic sports competitions.

These are in the form of discounts on tuition fee or full school fees depending on the approval of the University President upon the recommendation of the Director of Athletics. The list of Athletics Scholars shall be provided by the Director of Athletics together with the President’s approval thereon.

CHORALE SCHOLARSHIP

Approved members of the Jose Rizal University Chorale are entitled to 50% reduction on tuition fees provided that they have been members of the chorale for at least one (1) full school year, in the case of Junior High School students and two (2) semesters, in the case of Senior High School and College students. A maximum of 24 scholarships are available for the Junior High School, Senior High School and College divisions combined.

“SCROLL” SCHOLARSHIP

The editor-in-chief of the “Scroll” (the junior high school periodical publication) is entitled to full scholarship during the period of his incumbency, as determined by the faculty adviser of the publication and the Principal, and approved by the President.

The managing editor of the “Scroll” is eligible for a half scholarship during the period of his incumbency, also as certified by the faculty adviser of the publication and the Principal, and approved by the President. The scholarship will be valid for tuition fees only; all other fees will be charged as usual.

CAT SCHOLARSHIP

The Corps Commander of the Corps of Cadets is entitled to full scholarship up to the regular load of a junior high school student for the entire school year (or during the period of his command, if for less than the entire year) upon the written recommendation of the CAT Commandant and the Principal, and approved by the President. The scholarship will be valid for tuition fees only; all other fees will be charged as usual.

Scholarships for Direct Descendants of Founding Officers of Jose Rizal College

A full scholarship on tuition fees will be given to direct descendants of the founding trustees and first officers of Jose Rizal College in 1919. All relevant miscellaneous fees due must be paid in full upon enrolment. The eligibility for any such scholarship will be determined by the President.

Special Scholarships

Full Scholarship privileges will be granted dependents of military personnel who die or are incapacitated in line of duty are entitled to full scholarship covering tuition fees for one school year, including summer, under the provisions of Presidential Decree No. 577. Student’s entitled to this benefit must submit an approved copy of their eligibility issued by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational committee (AFPEBC). The number of grantees shall not exceed one student for every 2,000 enrolment.

A reduction of 20%on tuition fees will be granted those members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who can present the usual written permission from the commanding officer to enroll. This privilege is not available to civilian employees of the AFP.

P.D. 451 requires all private schools with a total enrollment of at least one thousand, to provide scholarships to poor but deserving students at the ratio of one free scholarship for every five hundred pupils/students enrolled. This law also states that these scholarships are on top of the current scholarships offered by schools to valedictorians and salutatorians and other pupils/students who have achieved scholastic distinction, or other forms of scholarships such as those given to athletes. These scholarships shall cover only the tuition fees for one school year. All miscellaneous fees should be paid by the pupil/student either by full or installment payments at the time of enrolment. Further details regarding P.D 451 can be obtain from Guidance and Testing Office (GTO).

Note that P.D. 451 refers to the total enrollment of the University and not the enrollment per Academic Division. Notwithstanding the provisions above, the University reserves the right to allocate these scholarships to the different Academic Divisions.
