In an explosive display of talent and determination, the Junior Track and Field Team from José Rizal University (JRU) left a memorable mark at the Mandaluyong Meet 2024, hosted at PhilSports in Pasig City.
With an impressive haul of 16 GOLD, 9 SILVER, and 1 BRONZE medals, the team emerged as undeniable champions, showcasing their prowess and dedication to their sport.
Leading the charge was Randy Degolacion, whose versatility and skill earned him not only multiple gold medals but also the title of Most Valuable Player. From dominating the 800m to anchoring victorious relay teams in both the 4x100m and 4x400m events, Degolacion’s performances were nothing short of stellar.
Joining him in the ranks of gold medalists were standout athletes like John Greg J. Tuba, who conquered the field in triple jump, long jump, and high jump, demonstrating remarkable athleticism and technique. Kyrt Dave Alyn Coyoca’s sprinting prowess was on full display as he claimed gold in the 100m, 200m, and 400m events, along with contributing to relay victories.
The team’s success extended beyond the track, with athletes excelling in field events as well. Jay Mark Dato showcased his strength and precision in shotput and discus events, while Jonrick Pangilinan’s agility and technique earned him gold in the 110m hurdles and contributions to relay victories.
Herald Patanao’s endurance was tested in the longer distance races, where he secured silver medals in the 5,000m and 3,000m events, along with a bronze in the 1,500m. Vincent Mateo displayed his speed and versatility with silver medals in the 100m and 400m races, as well as a gold in the 400m hurdles.
Benjie Torre rounded out the team’s stellar performances with gold in the 5,000m, along with silver in the 800m and 1,500m races, showcasing his strength and stamina on the track.
Behind every successful athlete is a dedicated coaching staff, and the JRU Junior Track and Field Team is no exception. Head Coach Elma Muros-Posadas and Assistant Coach Manuel Aurelio played instrumental roles in guiding and mentoring these young athletes, shaping them into champions both on and off the track
