July 4, 2018 (Wednesday) – In line with the opening of the NCAA Season 94, the annual celebration of Pep Rally of our University was held at JRU main quadrangle with a theme “Circo Rizaliano.” It is the time when the whole Rizalian community collides as one and shows that they are proud to bleed blue and gold.
The crowd came lively as one of the ABS-CBN The Voice Kids artist; Kyle Echarri serenaded the crowd and witnessed how the Rizalian spirit is on fire. The liveliness of the crowd increases as Migs Bustos, sports reporter, entered the quad to host the event together with proud alumna Theresa Leona “Tessa” Divino. The program started with the National Anthem led by the JRU Brass Band followed by the Doxology courtesy of the Young Rizalians Ukulele Ensemble. Dr. Vicente K. Fabella encouraged everyone to support all of the athletes. As a sign that the whole JRU varsity team is ready to face the new season of NCAA, Heavy Bombers and Track & Field captains Jonathan Jed Mendoza and Fauzi Del Rio sprinted at the quadrangle with their torches to light up the ring of fire. The JRU Pep Squad kept the crowd ablaze when they performed an extraordinary routine with their alumni members. It was a reunion performance worth watching. The entire varsity team has shown their talents in dancing once again alongside with the JRU Chorale, Teatro Rizal, and the JRU Dance Troupe performing the famous soundtracks from “The Greatest Showman.” The performances ran smoothly and it’s truly was remarkable. It started with the Swimming Team in which they performed “Rewrite the Stars,” followed by the Chess and Badminton Teams with selected Senior High School Arts and Design students performing “The Other Side.” Performances from the Lawn and Table Tennis Teams followed; “This is Me”, Track and Field Team with “From Now On”, Volleyball Team; “Come Alive,” and lastly, the Light and the Heavy Bombers who danced with “The Greatest Show.”
To serve as the highlight of Circo Rizaliano, the athletes, performing artists, PEP Squad, and marching band all performed altogether; symbolizing José Rizal University’s unity as we aim championship at the NCAA Season 94. The program came to an end with John Kenneth C. Dael’s live performance of the Centennial Song “Isang Daan Taon na Tayo”, followed by Himno Rizal.
Pep Rally 2018 was remarkably the greatest PEP Rally in JRU’s 100 years. This year’s Pep Rally showed the unity of athletes, artists, and the entire Rizalian community. As the NCAA Season 94 opens, the Rizalians cheers to win the championship on the sought-after Basketball games along with the other sports events.
