José Rizal University (JRU) has this alumnus always grateful for the very strong secondary and tertiary education it promised and delivered. From its humble and welcoming campus, not only did it make quality education affordable, but it values its students’ preparation for the real world. Our family had proven this time and time again – my younger brother and I, along with our mother, our aunts and our uncles, all have our stories as Rizalians.
I loved how its high school program did not limit my experience to academic activities only but instead allowed me to also partake and excel in the extracurricular activities including dancing which is another passion of mine. Enhanced academic foundation from the excellent teachers, finely tuned confidence level and sense of independence from the classroom/stage presentations and social clubs, a healthy level of competitiveness from the quiz bees and other contests – these are just some of the best takeaways from its high school program had to offer by the time I graduated in 2009 as the batch’s First Honorable Mention.
As my high school years very well helped me be prepared for college, my college years in the same University helped me be equipped for the professional world. I graduated at the age of 19 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) in 2013. The University’s 4-year BSA program delivered as all the graduates in my batch passed the October 2013 licensure exams, resulting to a 100% passing rate for first-time takers from JRU.
For my first job, I was an Audit Associate with PwC Isla Lipana & Co., one of the Big 4 Audit Firms in the Philippines. At the age of 22, I was hired as an Accounting Manager for a subsidiary company of Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. I then pursued my passion for auditing and was hired as Internal Audit Officer for Araneta Center, Inc. (now ACI, Inc.), during which I took and passed the licensure exams for Certified Internal Auditor (an international certification).
As icing to the cake in my JRU experience, I am now happily married to my high school sweetheart (classmate) and boyfriend of more than 11 years. Now a licensed Marine Engineer, he is also a proud alumnus of JRU – kindergarten school, elementary school and high school.
I am also forever indebted to God and to my family for giving me the chance to have the memorable school years I had with JR
This is Ma. Luisa Sultan – Rol, CPA, CIA, a proud high school and college alumna of JRU.
