The Awarding Ceremony of the fourth Dr. Bienvenido R. Tantoco Professorial Chair in Marketing and the first Dr. Bienvenido R. Tantoco Professorial Chair in Economics and Finance was held last April 4, 2013.
The Dr. Bienvenido R. Tantoco, Sr. (DBRTS) Professorial Chair Programme was launched in 2003, in honor of one of the most outstanding alumni of Jose Rizal University, Dr. Bienvenido R. Tantoco, Chairman of the Board of Rustan’s Group of Companies. Dr. Bienvenido R. Tantoco, Sr. is the founder of the Rustan’s Group of Companies, the leading luxury retail chain in the country. He is among our most loyal and best alumni. He funded this chair with the vision to contribute to the fields of marketing and retail management, and in economics and finance, areas he has spent his life developing.
The DBRTS Professorial Chair aims to promote academic excellence in the fields of marketing, economics, and finance. Its main objective is to promote marketing, economics and finance as a body of knowledge among the students and faculty of the University, as well as to promote instruction, research, and extension services not only in the academic community but also in the business community.
Dr. Cayetano W. Paderanga Jr. is our First Dr. Bienvenido R. Tantoco Sr. Professorial Chair Holder in Economics and Finance and Dr. Philip C. Zerrillo is our Fourth Dr. Bienvenido R. Tantoco Sr. Professorial Chair Holder in Marketing. Dr. Paderanga is the Chairman of the Board of the Institute for Development and Econometric Analysis (IDEA) and Foundation for Integrative and Development Studies (FIDS). He obtained his doctorate in Economics in 1979 from Stanford University, took graduate studies in Industrial Economics at the Center for Research and Communication in 1972, and his bachelor’s degree in Commerce from De La Salle University in 1968.
Dr. Zerrillo is the Dean of Graduate Studies and the Executive Director of the Post Graduate Professional programs and Case Writing Initiative at Singapore Management University. He is also the Executive Chairman of the MIM program at the Thammasat University in Thailand. Dr. Zerrillo went on to earn a PhD in Marketing for Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg School of Management, where he was a fellow for the Steel Resource Foundation.
